Thrifter achieves great results with cat painting worth thousands

A US saver hit the jackpot after a $ 32 oil painting bought at a Goodwill store turned out to be worth thousands of dollars.

The oil painting of a woman holding a black and white cat caught the attention of Phoenix interior designer Grace Carpenter because it looked like the cat she owned.

He posted a video of the painting on TikTok and it went viral, viewed 1.5 million times.

Ms. Grace received a ticket to the Antiques Roadshow television program with an appraiser telling her that the signature on the painting was that of Charles Craig, a late 1800s artist known for Western lifestyle oil paintings.

The art expert told her that the painting is an original, however the cat was added later.

“He can’t be on the show because he’s not 100% original, but if he were in his gallery, he wouldn’t let him out the door for under $ 2,000,” Ms. Grace said in a later TikTok video.
